Young Tommy and Sarah are only 13 years old, but they’re convinced they’re in love. One day, they decide they want to get married. Tommy gathers up his courage and goes to Sarah’s father to ask for her hand.
Tommy confidently approaches and says:
“Mr. Johnson, Sarah and I are in love. I’d like to ask for her hand in marriage.”
Finding the situation adorable, Mr. Johnson smiles and replies:
“Well, Tommy, you’re just 13. Where do you plan on living?”
Without hesitation, Tommy answers:
“In Sarah’s room! It’s bigger than mine, so we’ll both fit comfortably.”
Still amused, Mr. Johnson grins and says:
“Alright, but how will you support yourselves? You’re not old enough to work yet. You’ll need to take care of Sarah.”
Again, without missing a beat, Tommy responds:
“Well, we both get allowance. Sarah gets six dollars a week, and I get nine, so together that’s 60 dollars a month. We should be just fine.”
Mr. Johnson is impressed that Tommy has put so much thought into this and says:
“Well, Tommy, it sounds like you’ve thought this through. But I have one more question for you. What will you do if you and Sarah end up having children?”
Tommy just shrugs and says:
“Well, we’ve been pretty lucky so far.”
At this point, Mr. Johnson no longer finds Tommy quite as charming.
