Why Do Camels Have Humps?

Sharing is caring!

A mother camel and her baby were resting under a tree.

The baby camel asked, “Why do we have humps?”

The mother replied, “We are desert animals, and our humps store water so we can survive with little to drink.”

The baby thought for a bit and then asked, “Why are our legs so long and our feet round?”

The mother answered, “That helps us walk easily in the desert.”

After a pause, the baby asked, “And why do we have such long eyelashes? Sometimes they just get in my way.”

The mother smiled, “Our long eyelashes protect our eyes from the sand blowing in the desert wind.”

The baby thought even longer, then said, “So, the hump helps us survive in the desert, our legs are for walking in the desert, and our eyelashes shield us from desert sand. But… why are we in a zoo?”

The lesson: Skills and abilities are valuable only when used in the right environment. Otherwise, they may go to waste.
